Hi Angela, It is difficult to guess the duration of side effects as they are quite individual. Some people don't have them at all, some have mild and others quite serious ones. The policy is to start at the lowes dose (500 mg/day) and increase it gradually. You should take them with meals and if nothing helps, imodium is still a bet. I would not start clomid before giving metformin alone a chance. Hope this helps Sam (Ob/Gyn,RE)
