Carmen Re: Dr. Wu at UCLAFrom: Cyrilla (anonymous@obgyn.net)Tue, 6 Feb 2001 14:32:54 -0800
Hi Carmen, I was fortunate to have two children, each after just one month on clomid. My third child was a little suprise. After pursuing fertility treatments, I ended up having my tubes tied! My fertility treatments were with another OBGYN, not Doctor Wu. I was not treated on the basis of PCOS per se, but as I said, I was extremely fortunate in the ease I had conceiving, considering my extremely irregular and sometimes non existent periods. I was told I had PCO when I was 19 (I'm thirty six now). But at the time, I was just given the pill to regulate my periods, and told I "might" have trouble having babies. It wasn't until this year that I discovered all the other potential problems with PCO, including the insulin resistance connection, high blood pressure, increased risk of certain cancers, diabetes, heart problems, high cholesteral, etc.. I went to Dr. Wu to be treated for PCO to hopefully decrease my chances at some of these nasty problems, because my family is complete. I have liked working with him so far, although I've only seen him only three times so far. I must say, however, that in my case, he sort of followed my lead in terms of treatment. He wanted to know which of the symptoms were my priority (hair growth, etc.), and he prescribed the metforim at my request. He did run extensive blood tests and do an ultrasound to confirm that I had PCO before treating it. I missed an appointment with him in January (sick kids, had to stay home). But when I see him again, I'm going to ask for spirolactone, because although the met has made my periods more or less regular, my facial hair seems to be increasing a little. My advice to you, is educate yourself as much as possible as to all the potential fertility treatments. Its your health, its you who wants a baby, so you owe it to yourself to understand whats out there. Good luck, I wish you the best.
