Re: Birth Control & Pregnancy??From: Sue (anonymous@obgyn.net)Mon, 5 Feb 2001 11:44:28 -0600 (CST)
>So, my question is, if I start taking only every other birth control pill, is it possible that I could become pregnant? Or if I don't, would this reduced dosage be enough to control my symptoms?< Holly-- First and foremost, DON'T plan on doing anything further until you are in the care of a reputable RE and discuss it with him/her. You need to be treated (not nec. for infertility at this point) for PCO, and it can be successfully treated through insulin-sensitizing medications. Please familiarize yourself with this site and browse back through the archives in order to glean information for yourself. Taking bcps only control the symtpoms of PCO; they don't help with the underlying problem. And bcps can be dangerous to take differently than prescribed, esp. when you're making the decisions w/o a medical consult. There are other means to control your symptoms other than bcps, and they won't endanger any child you might conceive if you're not actively practicing contraception. Please find a dr in your area and take your concerns to him/her. It worries me that you would consider taking "every other" bcp to control your symptoms.
