Demetra re: Weight lossFrom: Cyrilla (anonymous@obgyn.net)Wed, 31 Jan 2001 10:53:45 -0800
Hi Demetra, I'm sure you know this, but met is not a magic pill for weight loss. I had good success last year with a diet called "Somersizing", from a book by Suzanne Somers called "Eat great, lose weight". Its a low carb (but not as intense as Atkins) diet and uses food combining. Since being on met, I have maintained, despite the fact that I haven't been able to get my act together as far as my diet. This is no small thing, as I have rarely been able to stay the same weight for long, I'm usually gaining, occasionally losing, but never staying the same. I believe the met is helping me maintain a 35-40 pound weight loss close to a year. I still have 70 - 80 pounds to go. What I am curious about is how well my diet would work now that my insulin levels should be more in control. As most of us know, weight is a complicated issue, and the physical part of it is only a small part. I believe that this condition (PCO) makes me predisposed to weight gain (as does my genetic make up), but ultimately, my food choices, coupled with whatever emotional baggage I'm "feeding", are the real culprits. I have toyed with the idea of using Meridia to jump start my diet, but I'm a little afraid after the phen fen scare a few years ago. I really wish I had more encouraging news for you. If you are exercising and making good food choices, I have no doubt that the met will help. Good luck!
