Hi Lisa, Some remarks to your history. If you were bleeding for 2-3 years (which is a little difficult to beleive) than no biopsy is necessary to find out hyperplasia of the endometrium, as no wonder, that after taking Megace for a couple of years hyperplasia is gone (several weeks would do the same trick). By the way Megace is no progesterone but a progestogen (a synthetic compound doing the same job as natural progesterone). Next: it is usualy prescibed in a cyclic fashion to induce regular (withdrawal) bleeding. Last: if your Dr wants to perform a hysterectomy because you don't bleed, look for a second opiniond urgently. My advise: have your hormone work done, try to have your bleeding induced (by Megace, Provera or Prometrium) and start on Metformin. Good luck Sam (Ob/Gyn, RE)
