Diagnosed at 13From: Beth (anonymous@obgyn.net)Mon, 22 Jan 2001 18:48:14 -0600 (CST)
I was diagnosed with PCOS at 13 and I'm now 25. I never really thought much about it until my husband and I discussed having a child. It's unnerving to me that no one ever educated me on what having PCOS really was. My OB/GYN doesn't see a really big problem with it except for the hirutism and difficulty getting pregnant. But I've also found that PCOS is probably responsible for my hypertension, also diagnosed at 13! I learned 1 in 4 women have it, which makes it pretty common, however more should be done on it in the media and literature because folks like me just thought the hair was because I was German!! I'm not on any meds right now, but I am seeing my OB today and with the research I've been doing I'd like to ask for something that can combat my infertility ... we really want a little one! It's calming to see others out there with the same frustrations ... I always thought I was alone.
