Re: ACTOS/SPIRO vs MET..weight loss? side effects?From: Dona (anonymous@obgyn.net)Fri, 19 Jan 2001 21:59:42 -0600 (CST)
HI, Ive been on Actos for 3 months now. I have no side affects..but I have not lost any any weight. I have gained 10 lbs but that could be from the holidays. I am not low carbing at all and have not changed any eating habits. I have read that you can loose weight just by lowering caloric intake and exersize with Actos. I just havent been motivated enough to start yet. I have noticed hair growth slowing way down I dont have to pluck daily anymore...just every few days..so I think vaniqa would probably work well for me. I have had 3 normal cycles in a row...27-28 days in length and an increase in PMS symtoms incuding water retension and Breast tenderness that I have never had before in my Life, but then I have never had a period every month before either till now!! my mood swings are no were near as bad as they used to be. I started using ovalation dector this month but it's still too early to tell if I am going to ovulate or not.I will post again if I do.That is a sure sign that Actos is working. As far as hair loss on my head I have always had fine hair but alot of it. My grandmother lost almost all of her hair by the time she was 50 so I am hoping that Actos will help stop that before it can start(gee do you think she had PCOS?).by the way I am 35 with secondary infertility and I take only 15mg of Actos..my RE wanted to take a conservative aproach to my PCOS and see if a low dosage would work just as well as a higher one.I think it has.But I agree with the other person who posted to your message...you need to discuss it with your RE..and see what is best for you!! Take care and I hope I helped a bit...I never have been on Met..so I an not compare the 2..I was scared of Met because of the dosage and the side affects. Have a wonderful weekend, Dona
