Fay,
I was at Dermatologist's office today (for my acne) and talked with a
woman who has lost all the hair on her head within past year and her
body hair is now also falling out!. She now wears a wig. She said this
was due to the Glucophage (she was on 1500 mg /day too)!!! The derm has
now referred her to the Chief of Endocrinology at Columbia Pres.
Hospital in NY. She spoke with the manufacturer of glucophage and they
told her this was a rare but possible side effect of the medicine. They
said it occurs in such a small amount of patients, they did not need to
put this warning on the package insert@! I feel for your
daughter...hopefully it's not the glucophage in her case..but please
explore talking with a dermatologist and an endocrinologist who
specializes in hair loss disorders as soon as possible.

Now, specifically , in the past 2 weeks, she has lost hair on her head at an alarming rate...her hair was always very thick and heavy..a real envy....now had to cut her hair 2 times in the past week to try to make it at least some "style"...it is thinning VERY quickly, you can see the hair in the shower, on her pillow....thin, right thru to her scalp. She knows it is thinning, but actually hasn't been able to see the top of hger head(bald spots) too well yet, as I know she will soon. I have been in tears for the past few days, and she has been very depressed. I called her endo today and all he could tell me was to stop glucophage, even tho he admitted that hair loss was NOT an effect of glucophage. He suggested I take her to hjave a sc

Please! If anyone can help, I will be eternally grateful. My daughter is the love of my life, and I am falling apart watching her go thru this horror.
