Met can cause lactic acidosis - build up of lactic acid in the kindeys, and kill you. This can occur even if you just don't drink enough fluids - my doc told me that if I was so sick I couldn't keep anything down, then to go off the Met. Alcohol causes dehydration, that's why you're told to avoid alcohol. If I go out to drink, (rarely), I don't take my night dose, or morning dose. Never have a problem.
