Glucophage and ...nails?

Hi, I'm new here and don't know all of the "etiquette" stuff for these boards yet. But I have a dumb question about the Glucophage I'm taking.

I found out about hyperinsulinism and PCOS in June, 2000. I've had PCOS since 1981 but no one knew anything about treatment. I had the glucose tolerance test and insulin levels and found out I was early (borderline, whatever) diabetic and my GP started me on the glucophage in July, 2000. I have no big problems, I can live with diarrhea and gas if I have normal periods, BUT my fingernails have all broken off, become very brittle and split and peeled. I have always had beautiful of nails and for some stupid reason I find this heartbreaking! I've looked at the insert and the warnings on Glucopghage and found nothing on this. Should I just give up and resign myself to having ugly nails or should I take hair and nail vitamins?

I'm sorry that this is such a dumb question, but no one seems to know.
