PCOS & Glucophage & Follistim - what my RE didn't knowFrom: Amy (anonymous@obgyn.net)Sat, 6 Jan 2001 23:57:30 -0600 (CST)
I was diagnosed with PCOS & borderline Insulin Resistance 2 years ago. My OB-GYN sent me to a RE. The first thing he did was put me on Glucophage for 30 days and then attepmted Clomid, with no result. I then went on to Follistim and had no response to 3.5 vials/day & overstimulated on 4 vials/day. After 7 very expensive cycles, I finally went to a well respected Dr in the Philadelphia area who helped a friend of my have a child. There I found out what my "Infertility Specialist" RE DID NOT KNOW! 1. Glucophage takes about 90 days to begin to work. 2. Overstimulation may create a poor uterine enviornment for the fertilized egg to attach. Those 7 cycles were very costly and emotionally draining! (especially when I found out my brother was expecting his 1st child) PLEASE ALWAYS SEEK A 2ND OPINION!
