Re: Glucophage Side Effects

I was advised to begin with a lower dosage of 500mg for about two weeks, then increase to 1000mg for two weeks, then increase to 1500 mg etc. I take Glucophage XR which is an extended release form of the drug. The extended release feature is supposed to curb the nausea side effect. I was also advised to take the medication with my evening meal (on the assumption that this is the largest meal of the day). By doing this, if you do have any nausea, you will likely be sleeping at the time and it should have subsided by the morning.

So far, it is working wonders for me. The only time I have any nausea at all is when I let my stomach get completely empty. I follow the diabetic meal plan set out by the American Diabetes Association and so I break my food down into 6 small meals throughout the day, rather than the usual 3. This helps keep blood sugar levels on an even keel and also has helped curb the side effects of the medication.
