Re: Glucophage Side Effects

I just started Gluc. too and from what I've read on this board (search the archives for 'met' or 'metformin' or 'glucophage')-- you're not really supposed to just jump in with a high dose of glucophage. Not that it will harm you--it just gives you the heavy side effects you described. My doctor told me to start out with 500 mg a day and work up to 1500mg. From what others on this board have said, you can increase dose as your side effects subside, or do it week by week or whatever. Also, some have said take it in the middle of a meal. Some avoid eating dairy with it (tho dairy is ok for me when i take it) Some have said dont eat salad with it. Also many avoid high carb meals with it--that makes them sicker. Go low carb (under 100 carbs? under 60 maybe?) and see if that makes you feel better. Also...work your way up to the dose you doc asked you to be on. That sounds like your main prob!

good luck!! :D
