pcos & glucophageFrom: Robin (anonymous@obgyn.net)Fri, 29 Dec 2000 17:36:10 -0600 (CST)
I came across this wonderful board as I was trying to research my options for pcos and fertility. I have asked my obgyn about the glucophage treatment for the problems I have been experiencing with pcos for numerous years now. My problem is I am 30 pounds overweight, a bmi of 30,pluck hairs from my chin daily, my blood sugar fluctuates heavily between 62-225, but I experience symptoms of hypoglycemia frequently. Diabetes runs in my family heavily and for this reason my obgyn refuses to put me on glucophage AT ALL, yet agrees that there is a connection with insulin resistance and pcos. He refuses to test my glucose tolerance and is stuck on this Clomid trip. I will be seeing my GP on tuesday armed with all of my research, family history and blood sugar levels. Should I also ask for a referral to another obgyn or just beg to be tested for insulin resistance? I'm sorry this is so long, but I have been frantic and depressed about all of this. TIA Robin
