Hi ladies, I am currently taking Diane 35 as well as a low dose of spironolactone to treat my PCOS. I tried a low dose of metformin for about 8 months, but felt better while not taking it. I had heartburn, diaherra, etc., very small weight loss while on it, and I even think it may have caused my acid reflux to flare up again. So I quit metformin and asked my doctor to prescribe Avandia. After consulting his partner, he agreed. However, about 8 days later, I broke out in a horrible rash that lasted 6 weeks. The dermatologist could not help me. After consulting a new primary care physician, she suggested I stop the Avandia. Well, the rashes and itching have gone away. So it looks like I may well be allergic to Avandia. It is possible that I had a delayed reaction to an antibiotic, Levaquin, but my new doc thinks that Avandia is the likely culprit. Since I have not tolerated met or avandia well, are there other options for me to reduce my insulin levels? I wonder if I would be better off with just diet and exercise? Are there more natural or herbal treatments that people have found successful? I am interesting in hearing your experiences. I am discouraged because I have continued to gain weight lately without doing anything different. Thanks so much. Eileen.
