Re: Just diagnosedFrom: Ruth (anonymous@obgyn.net)Tue, 19 Dec 2000 23:09:54 -0600 (CST)
Hi Penny - Glad to see that you found us. I am not certain about the bleeding cysts, but if your doctor says there is "no alternative" I think I might start looking for another doctor. I had one tell me that about 10 years ago when I asked about cause of the facial hair growth. I changed doctors to one that knew more about PCOS and certainly more senstive to my needs. One of the recurring themes on this board is people telling about their doctors and their ignorance about PCOS. Some are worse than others. He/she may not know much more to do. The best way to combat this is to "arm" yourself with information. The internet is a great place to find out information (causes, treatments, studies, research, etc.). If I were you I would start searching your condition to find out more about it. WebMD is a good place to start for general research. OnHealth.com is another good one. I have heard that cysts can have water, other fluid or blood in them. The ones with blood in them are called "chocolate cysts". You might start researching with that. Surely there is something that can be done in conventional or unconventional treatments. Print out the information for your next doctor's appt and ask him/her about what you found. If they seem willing to work with you (and perhaps try a few things), then I would give the doctor a chance. If they get an attitude and act offended with your questions, then maybe it's time to shop around. Since PCOS treatment (particularly infertility related) can be expensive you might want to make sure they are on your insurance, if possible. I hope you find the answers and help you are looking for. When you are in pain, you shouldn't just take it lying down. I am 33 now and wasted years of treatment with doctors that were "know it all's" and I trusted them. I wish I had stood up for myself sooner armed with the right information about my health. It seems silly, but the best thing is to be your own advocate. Good luck! Ruth ;-)
