Hey Susan,

In your response to Kerry, congratulations on the weight loss and steadying!!! Do you feel better overall? I think any amount of weight loss tends to help us feel better.

Also, I believe you're right about the timing of noticing a difference. I started Glucophage back in spring of 1996. Although I lost about 50 pounds within the year, without really trying, I don't think I noticed it right away. I was also VERY skeptical and did NOT mention that possibility to my husband. He had tormented me about my weight for YEARS even when I weighed just 10 or 15 pounds more than I did when he married me.

I eventually went off Glucophage (this was after being on it at least 1 1/2 years) because I started having the severe gastro cramping and explosive diarrhea to the point it was miserable. (I spent a VERY uncomfortable all day date in Chicago on a first date.....bathrooms are quite tricky to find! ) Yes, I did regain about 25 - 30 of the pounds I had lost. Yes, it disappoints me. I've tried to restart it several times, only to have the diarrhea and cramping change my mind again.

How I hope they'll soon find another medication that works just as well with my system as the met did, but won't have the drastic side effects. And......I'm proud of how you're doing! *HUG*
