Re: black cohoshFrom: TechGirl (anonymous@obgyn.net)Thu, 7 Dec 2000 08:01:07 -0500
Hi Ruth: Have you tried using progesterone suppositories? I used them with my son, but not with my last pregnancy and I miscarried. I am pregnant again now and on the projesterone and so far so good, but I'm only about 8 weeks along and they did a sono which showed a heartbeat. I also had a MC before my son, but that was before I knew about the PCOS. Herbal remedies make me nervous. In fact I was taking some essential fatty acids (omega 3 and omega 6) prior to becomming pregnant and I strongly believe that this was what regulated my periods and made me fertile. My periods went from being a couple of time a year to every 28 - 30 days. I did discontinue taking them because I can't find any info about whether they are "safe" during pregnancy. The high LH levels account (supposedly) for the higher miscarriage rate for PCOS patients. Has anyone tried this? I have also heard about PCOS ladies using Chastetree Berry (also called Vitex), but this raises LH and Progesterone. Anyone got any experience with either of these? I'm on the Metformin (for several months) and still no periods. I have had 3 miscarriages and I am trying to find out more aobut it. Any info would be helpful! Thanks! Ruth ;-) Dear Ruth, If you have had repeated m/c black cohosh is NOT the way to go. It is contraindicated in first trimester because of it's possible abortifacient properties.
