black cohoshFrom: Kirsten (anonymous@obgyn.net)Thu, 7 Dec 2000 10:07:04 +0800
Ruth wrote:I have done some researching on the web and found a few studies that state that Black Cohosh (herbal remedy) lowers LH levels. The high LH levels account (supposedly) for the higher miscarriage rate for PCOS patients. Has anyone tried this? I have also heard about PCOS ladies using Chastetree Berry (also called Vitex), but this raises LH and Progesterone. Anyone got any experience with either of these? I'm on the Metformin (for several months) and still no periods. I have had 3 miscarriages and I am trying to find out more aobut it. Any info would be helpful! Thanks! Ruth ;-) Dear Ruth, If you have had repeated m/c black cohosh is NOT the way to go. It is contraindicated in first trimester because of it's possible abortifacient properties. Reference: Complementary Therapies for Pregnancy and Childbirth. Tiran,D ed. I would recommend you consult a naturopath or herbalist before starting any herbal treatment
