Re: PCOS-MEDICATION digest 269From: Bronwyn (anonymous@obgyn.net)Thu, 30 Nov 2000 00:34:55 -0500
Kirsten, I haven't taken it while breastfeeding, but I'm sure this is something you need to discuss with your doctor and the baby's doctor to find what is best for you both. Do you need it for diabetes, or is it to address the insulin issues of PCOS? What dosage will you be taking? How often will you need to eat and how much rest are you able to get during the day and night? These are just a few of the questions you'll want to ask yourself and discuss with your physicians. They say most meds should be avoided when breastfeeding, but then you've also got to weigh the risks to the mom of NOT taking them. (In this case, you baby NEEDS YOU, so you've got to be sure to take care of yourself too.) If you're not seeing an endocrinologist, you might want to at least get some information from the diabetic associations on their recommendations and findings concerning breastfeeding and metformin. This might help you decide too. Best wishes to you and your little one! Hugs, Shelley spryte@dnsonline.net
