Chris, Don't give up hope! It took me over two years to get pregnant, but I finally did without the help of fertility drugs. Although my doctor told me that I may not even ovulate more than once a year, I hadn't even been diagnosed with pcos at the time. Not until my daughter was almost 3(she just turned 5)was I diagnosed with pcos.

I have never had regular cycles unless on bcp and have always had the excessive hair on my upper lip, arms, and belly. I was very, very active in high school athletics, so my weight wasn't much of a problem. My weight probably would have shot up in college, but I went on bcp to regulate my cycles. When I went off of bcp three years after getting married, to try to get pregnant, my weight started increasing quickly. When I lost 10 of the 30 pounds that I had gained, was when I got pregnant. Through my pregnancy, I only gained 25 pounds and lost it fairly quickly after giving birth. After that I started gaining again and am now about 65 pounds heavier than when I got married. When I'm on bcp, I lose weight, but didn't go back on them right after having my daughter.

It has taken me the two years since I have been diagnosed with pcos to find an ob-gyn to prescribe glucophage for me. I've been on it (500mg twice a day)for almost 2 months, and have had two regular cycles. The only problem is that they're only 21 days apart, but I'll take what I can get. I'm real disappointed about the weight issue though, because I was hoping to lose weight with this medicine, but am actually still gaining. I may talk to my doctor about increasing my dosage to 1500mg a day since my side effects have been very mild so far. I do still want to get pregnant again, but would like to lose some of this weight first. Right now, I weigh more than I did when I was 9 months pregnant and can't imagine adding 25 or more pounds to this. I AM VERY HOPEFUL ABOUT THE WAY THAT GLUCOPHAGE HAS REGULATED MY CYCLES THOUGH. THAT SEEMS TO BE THE FIRST STEP TO GETTING PREGNANT!

I know exactly what you mean about pcos changing the way you feel. I sometimes get very depressed too, and I wonder how my husband can be attracted to me. Make sure that you don't let your feelings about yourself guide how you think your husband feels about you. I have been accused of this myself. Actually, my husband seems more attracted to me now then he ever has! Go figure! I certainly don't feel very attractive right now, but that's MY feelings, not his! I'm going to try e-diets.com to see if that helps me now that I'm on the glucophage. Good luck finding something that will work for you, I'm not giving up, because I think that every pound I lose will put me that much closer to being able to conceive.

Feel free to e-mail me if you ever need to talk to someone about the way you're feeling.

Hang in there!
