Becca,

Because they're finding so many of the problems with PCOS seem related to the insulin link (or insulin resistance), one of the "side effects" of taking insulin sensitizer medications (also called oral diabetic meds) is that many women's hormonal systems start to work "normally". This means that they might have regular cycles....OVULATING cycles...for the first time in their lives! Because the woman's system is working "normally" and as other hormones fall into the "normal" range, the woman has a higher chance of OVULATING and therefore in CONCEIVING!!! Isn't that cool?! I know of a few ladies who have conceived when they were taking some of these meds....one was on Rezulin (which has since been pulled from the market due to liver failure problems) and I think a couple have found Actos or Avandia to work. I don't know for sure if anyone has had luck with the Glucophage contributing to their fertility rate or not....but I don't see why it shouldn't work also if it's dealing with the insulin imbalance. Some of these "moms" even took the injectible fertility drugs before taking the insulin sensitizers and they didn't have any luck on the fertility drugs......and yet, they conceived and had a baby while on diabetic medications because they address the insulin issue!

Hope that helps!

Hugs,

Shelley spryte@dnsonline.net
