Metformin doesn't work - what now? Reply: Shelly: "Re: Metformin doesn't work - what now?" I have been on Met for over a year. I went all the way to the max. dose of 2550 mg/day. I have not had a period since July. Took a pregnancy test and it was negative. Hair growth still driving me crazy and I have gained 15 pounds. I am REALLY sick and tired of this whole thing. I quite taking the met. My doctor believes so strongly in Met, that he will not prescribe anything else. He suggested I go back to my family doctor and ask him to prescribe Avandia, but I have not heard many success stories with that. I certainly don't want to gain any more weight. I am back up over 200 again. Can anyone out there help? Is there anyone who has tried Met and gone on to something else that worked? Please let me know that there is hope.
