Should I take Metformin while pregnant

Hi everyone!

My husband and I are pregnant after trying for 1 1/2 years! I conceived while taking Metformin (850mg BID) and Clomid (50mg). The first day of my last menstrual cycle was 9/13/00, although I did not ovulate until 10/1/00. By 10/11/00, I discovered that I was pregnant via a home pregnancy test. My OB/GYN has been monitoring my HCG and progesterone levels approximately every other day:

On 10/12/00, HCG was 37, progesterone 21 10/16/00, HCG was 486, progesterone 28.7 10/18/00, HCG was 1,205, progesterone 24.9

My OB/GYN instructed me to stop taking Metformin last Wednesday (10/11/00), the day I tested positive at home. After reviewing all of Dr. Glueck's research, I expressed my desire to continue on the Metformin because of the chance it could reduce my chances for a miscarriage. I am worried sick that this pregnancy will not survive. My OB/GYN (whom I love) does not recommended it, saying that the risks outweigh the benefits. I am also using progesterone supplements every night, 100mg via vaginal suppository and I am NOT diabetic.

I am becoming very anxious about the whole thing, to the point where I cannot concentrate on other things. I e-mailed Dr. Glueck for advice and he advised me to continue with the Metformin. But this man doesn't know me from a hole in the wall and I do not want to put my fetus at risk on such a whim. Does anyone have any advice for me? Specifically, has anyone out there taken Metformin during a pregnancy? What were your results?

Thank you everyone for your time :) Jen
