I'm a 'new-comer' with a lot of questions...Please Help...From: anonymous (anonymous@obgyn.net)Fri, 13 Oct 2000 10:31:09 -0500 (CDT)
Hello. I was just diagnosed with PCOS a month ago. I haven't begun any treatments because I am waiting on the results of a biopsy. The day I had my biopsy, my doctor prescribed me Tri-Levlen birth control pills. My testosterone level is 168, and it should be within the 6-86 range. As you can see, it is EXTREMELY high. Tri-Levlen contains levonorgestrel, and I read on a PCOS site that it is not a good birth control pill choice because it doesn't help lower testosterone levels. I would like to know what medications are good for treatment of all of my symptoms (thinning hair, acne, skin darkening, uncontrollable weight gain, absence of menses). I do not want to take birth control pills. Is it possible to treat all of these symptoms without having to take oral contraceptives? Please help me. Thank you.
