Re: Confused on the Birth control thing. From: stacey (anonymous@obgyn.net)Mon, 9 Oct 2000 22:19:24 -0500 (CDT)
Most doctors here will NOT prescribe spiro without also ensuring that a female (of the age and with the ability to conceive) is on bcps - spiro is tetragenic (sp) - can and will cause deformities to the fetus/embryo should the female get pregnant while on the drug. I've been on the pill for the past 10 years, mostly on, probably about 7 of the 10 years total. I prefer the pill and its convenience and the knowledge of when I'm going to cycle v. the not knowing. I am not trying to get pregnant (I have a 9 year old daughter). When I do try, I will just go off the pill, stay on the Met and try to conceive within the first cycle or 2 after I go off the pill (which is how I got pregnant with my daughter, since the pill "abates" the symptoms).
