Re: Is Everyone on here from the States?From: anonymous@obgyn.netFri, 6 Oct 2000 08:11:09 -0700
I am from Canada .....though it seems to me you guys also have access to a lot more informed Dr's! ======================================== Not really. Just like Canada is wide and vast, so are the "States". You'd think that being just 1 1/2 hours from Chicago and 2 1/2 from Indianapolis that the northwest/northcentral area of Indiana would have informed doctors.....HA! The FEW that I've found are too swamped with insurance red tape and propoganda to keep up with the latest findings and treatments for specialized things like PCOS......they have no INTEREST in learning more.....and some even resent patients who are informed and know more about their condition than the doctor does. (Can you say "Anal retentive"? hehehehe) What a shame! I would think that most doctors would WANT patients to take an active interest in their own health.....but it seems that's only if the patient meets the society preferred standard...."Anemic waif" for women. That's another thing....why is it that those women with eating disorders that cause them to become dangerously thin are treated like delicate porcelain dolls and the women with PCOS who have the misfortune of the weight struggle are treated with a callous...."You're FAT...LOSE WEIGHT."??? ARGH! I'm not saying that the other women aren't in need of help....by all means, their disorders need to be addressed and treated!!!....and I believe that for the majority of them, they have little to no control over their problem than we do. *stepping off soap box* *cheesy grin*
