I was recently diagnosed with PCOS & hypothyroidism by my Internal Medicine doctor, who referred me to a local gynocologist. After going through several rounds of blood/hormone tests & pelvic sonogram, the gynocologist also came up with the same conclusion. The gyno has told me that there is only 2 ways to treat PCOS which I was completely baffled with his information. (BC pills or to do nothing but let nature take it's course). I have been on Ortho-tri-clyclene for 3 months & it seems to have aggravated several of the problems--acne, wt gain, excess hair growth, erratic periods, etc. He also prescribed Paxil because it would help me cope with the BC pills side effects. I have been reading the PCOS forums and all the information I can obtain & tried to ask him about these other treatment alternatives. The Dr was very upset with all the questions & information that I wanted to know about, became very insulting & sent a letter to my insurance company stating he was dropping me as a patient due to "problems". I have since made an appointment with a Reproductive Endocrinologist but now am worried about going through all the same issues. I just want to feel better, not have all these "unpretty" side effects and be normal. I am in the Dallas area and would love any advice on how to deal with a prospective new doctor and PCOS. Thanks.
