Carol, The glucophage will help your body use the insulin that you produce better. Many are on 1800mg or higher. It's a very individual thing. Some side effects include gastrointestinal distress (diarrhea, cramps, bloating), nausea, fatigue and there are probably others I've forgotten. You can check out all of the side effects at http://www.rxlist.com and look for glucophage or metformin. Ideally, this med will help lower testosterone levels if they are high and hopefully balance out the hormones that are causing the symptoms. For some, the glucophage helps them have periods on their own, some have even conceived on metformin alone! I hope this is helpful.
