Re: Questions on Clomid/HCGFrom: Kathy (anonymous@obgyn.net)Mon, 02 Oct 2000 12:17:01 -0400
My doctor tells me not to give up until my next period starts. It is not uncommon to ovulate late in your cycle using clomid. I have experienced the same thing on 100 mg, but by day 16 I had a mature egg. The other thing you should probably know is that clomid has some residual effect meaning that it lingers in your system. So if it isn't working yet it may eventually take off! My doctor also monitors me closely with a day 12 u/s, if no maturing folicals he does another u/s at day 16, then another ultrasound @ day 21 to look for over stimulation. I didn't ovulate for 3 cycles @ 50 mg, so my doctor increased to 100mg last month. Last month I ovulated and this month the u/s showed no mature egg at 12 or 16 days, but my doctor said it was still possible to ovulate late. Do you use any ovulation tests? Kathy
>>> Betsy <anonymous@medispecialty.com> 10/02 12:01 PM >>> Hello! I have been reading these boards for years and have really learned a lot from everyone. Thank you so much to everyone. This is my first time writing though. I'm 32, have known that I had PCOS for 3 years, and am on my third cycle with Clomid. This is the first cycle with a fertility specialist, so it is actually being monitored, versus my OB/GYN giving me the prescription and no follow up. Today is day 13 and I took 150mg of Clomid on days 3 - 7. I went in this morning for an ultrasound and they saw only one follicle at 12.7 mm and two others at 8mm, so I am going to go back in on Friday for another U/S. I asked the nurse if this is normal that by Day 13 I would not have bigger follicles and she said something about this being common with low doses of Clomid. When I mentioned that I was taking 150 mg, she really didn't have an answer then. I just want to know if anyone else has had this experience and had larger follicles much later in the cycle. What's "normal"? Is there such a thing? If none of the follicles are big enough by now, should I start thinking ahead to the next cycle? 150 mg of Clomid was the max amount my Doctor wanted to try with me. I did not ovulate on 50 mg, and did not ovulate on 100 mg. Have any of you had any success with greater doses of Clomid? What is the highest any of you have gone? Do higher doses increase the chance of ovarian hyperstimulation? I know I have asked a lot of questions, but I really thank you so much for any input or help you can provide. Betsy
