My expericence with Glucophage - Actos, anyone?From: Leigh (anonymous@obgyn.net)Sun, 3 Sep 2000 15:30:22 -0500 (CDT)
Hello to everyone! I am new to this forum, but I have searched the internet for the past year reading info on PCOS. In response to Kim and Monica, my experience was mixed with Glucophage. I started Glucophage last December and experienced some major changes. My energy level went through the roof - so much, in fact, that I was existing on about four hours of sleep a night and doing great. I also noticed an immediate reduction in my facial hair and loss of PCOS acne (great feeling!). I had GI problems, but assumed it was just an initial side effect and was willing to tolerate it. I lost about 10 pounds, but I only weigh 118 pounds, so my RE doctor advised that I watch my weight loss. After six months, however, the GI problems persisted and my energy level normalized. The facial hair and acne reduction stayed the same. I visited my primary doctor about my GI problems and he thought I was toxic to Glucophage. He prescribed 15 mgs of Actos about three weeks ago. My GI problems disappeared immediately. It has been three weeks and I am side-effect free. However, I am wondering if Actos will reduce my testosterone like Glucophage. My doctor faxed me some studies on Actos, but it appears that those studies were citing results from Metformin studies on PCOS. Has anyone had positive results on Actos?
