Re: PCOSFrom: Monica (anonymous@obgyn.net)Sun, 27 Aug 2000 07:49:12 -0500 (CDT)
Dear gemlml, Congratulations for taking the first steps to feeling better and getting well! There is hope for us out there! I, too, am 34 and have three boys thanks to clomid. I've had PCOS since about age 15 but was just diagnosed this summer. I've been on MEt for about 5 weeks and have never felt better in my life! I never even new there was a name or even a reason for why I was *different* from other women (hair, periods, inability to loose weight). I'm sure your story is similar. Take heart, you're on the right track. You need to find a doctor who is PCOS friendly, http://www.pcosupport.org has a link to find a doctor in you area. Your dr. SHOULD be concerned that you haven't had a period in over a year. You need to have a period at minimum every three months or you are at greater risk for cancer down there. Find a dr. that takes your concerns seriously. Your life depends on it! With some of the drugs out there being used for PCOS like Metformin (glucophage), Actos, Avandia, and with diet and exercise you CAN get healthy like a normol functioning hormonal woman. THIS IS NOT YOUR FAULT! This is a genetic disease that you have. There is a medical reason why you can't lose weight like other women. But with the proper medical attention, determination, and hard work, there is hope. Read everything you can about this disease and take copies to your dr. Make a list of all your symptoms, too. Decide what your goals are (ie: weight loss, hair issues, acne, fertility?). You've come to the right place for support. We're here for you. Keep us posted. I'll saw a prayer for you today. :)Monica
