Re: Met v. BCPFrom: Kristy (anonymous@obgyn.net)Wed, 23 Aug 2000 22:39:45 -0700 (PDT)
Rae, I don't take Metformin but I do take the bcp in conjunction with the spironolactone (aka Aldactone) and this combination seems to have helped me a lot as far as keeping the testosterone levels down. Have you checked information in the archives of this forum as well as at the PCOS Pavilion page? The link to the Pavilion page is: http://www.obgyn.net/pcos/pcos.asp and the link to the archives of this forum is: http://forums.obgyn.net/pcos-medication. I've heard that the reason for the birth control pill while taking Metformin (I think this is right) and/or Spironolactone is b/c of the fact that these drugs can help make you very fertile and pregnancy could possibly occur. As I said the information in the archives of this forum might be able to give you what you are looking for. Also, if you want to check out the archives of the Women's Health Forum: http://forums.obgyn.net/womens-health b/c sometimes the issue of spironolactone does come up. I am sorry that I couldn't be of much more help than this. I hope that it does help you though. Take care, Kristy S :) Jacksonville, FL
