Pregnancy Triggering PCOS??? ADVICE NEEDED!

Is it possible that my pregnancy triggered my PCOS???

I have always had perfect cycles since I began at age 13. I had always been very very slim, not very active and ate what I wanted. Then at ate 25,(6'2" tall, 175 lbs.) I got pregnant, and put on almost 50 lbs and had problems with water retention and bloated ankles. I nursed my child for 8 1/2 months (which was miserable and painful for me). After weening her, I began to gain weight rapidly.

4 1/2 years ago I went through 6 months of no cycles. My OBGYN told me that I might have PCOS, and prescribed the pill, which I resented since I was trying to get pregnant again. I took myself off of it after 3 months. Now I'm realizing that there are better treatments.

Now at age 31, I have almost all of the common symptoms of PCOS. I have the Acanthosis Nigrican brownish-gray patch on the back of my neck (which I was very surprised to learn was connected to PCOS but also glad to finally know why it's there), My cycles returned on their own, but now they are just spotty, or very slow and last a minimum of 2 weeks. Yuck! I have occassional acne around the jawline or under the chin. I have some facial hair, sprigs on the chin, and a more full mustache, light in color. I've gained a total of 100 lbs above my original weight before pregnancy. It's centered around my middle (I look 7 months pregnant). I've tried dieting and exercise and can't lose a bit. I've been on LOW-CARB, LOW-FAT, and HIGH-CARB diets, and none seem to work for me. I've been able to maintain 280 lbs. for the past year, but I'm tired of maintaining, I want to lose!!! I have mood swings that range from depression to uncontrollable outburst of anger. They seem to be worse right before and right after my periods. I have tried to conceive for 5 years now, unsuccessfully. Now I'm to the point of not wanting anymore children anyway.

I have a family history of Heart Disease and Diabetes and am desparately afraid of increasing my chances of getting these diseases due to PCOS. (May already be too late)

I'll be seeing my OBGYN soon, and would love to be able to communicate with her about the best and latest treatments. Any advice for someone who doesn't trust the medical profession, and hates to take medication???
