i've seen questions on people inquiring abou proscar . my doctor prescribed it for me because a side effect of aldactone might bring my periods closer and breakthrough bleeding. i get a period every 26 days and it lasts about a week. this doesn't mean i ovulate every month but i do bleed. the proscar is 5mg every day and has no known side effects( i haven't had any) this was precribed for the hair growth and alopecia. it blocks the formation of DHT. it has slowed the hair growth amazingly and the hair on my head isn't falling out excessivly any more either. i don't have any regrowth on scalp but i am happy to retain what i have. for those of you who don't know proscar is propecia the only difference is the dosage. propecia is 1.5mg of finasteride and proscar is 5mg of finastride. my doctor at first started me on 2.5mg (i had to cut the proscar in half to get that dosage because it only comes in 1.5mg or 5mg) after 3mo she uped the dosage to the full 5mg pill. there is one major concern of this drug and that being you can not try to get pregnant or be pregnant while on this drug. i cannot stress that enough. it will effect the fetus. you must practice one or more methods of birth control. this is why most doctors will not precribe this drug to woman who are of child bearing age. this drug is not usually given to woman who are pre menapausal. discuss this as an option with your doctor and weigh all the options available to you before making the decision to take this drug should your doctor be willin to prescribe it to you.
