Mary Beth,
I was not overweight when I was diagnosed at 19, my only symptom, like
you, was irregular periods. I weighed 120-125. Within 2 years of being
diagnosed I gained a huge (50 lbs) amount of weight. I also did start
noticing hair growth which has only gotten worse as time goes on. I
urge you to get treatment even though you don't have all the symptoms.
The earlier you begin treatment the better it will be in the long run. I
am not an any way trying to freak you out, just trying to save you the
pain I went through before I began treatment. Birth control pills are a
pain, but they did help me a great deal. I am now on Met, which is an
insulin regulator, and I have lost 30 lbs in 3 months! Do you know if
you are IR? Well whatever you decide, I wish you luck! Keep working out,
that will help!
