Confusion!From: Mary (anonymous@obgyn.net)Wed, 9 Aug 2000 00:56:11 -0500 (CDT)
I was diagnosed with PCOS about 8 months ago. My only symptoms were no menstral periods and acne, both of which I thought to be a result of stress. Since I was diagnosed, I have been on the birth control pill. I am not a fan of the pill. I have been on it in the past and have always experienced side effects that bothered me and made me feel unlike myself. I wish that I could treat this without the pill or a hormone. Do you have any suggestions? My doctor told me that sometimes just by adding more protein and less carbs to my diet and reducing stress, PCOS can correct itself. She said that after one year on the pill, I could stopp taking it and see if my body could produce a period on its own. Do you think this will work, because the pill is driving me crazy! ALSO, I am very confused. Everthing I read about PCOS says that the women who have it are usually obese! I am 25 years old, 125 pounds and wear a size six. I work out regularly. I don't have facial hair either. Are ther any other women out there like me who have been diagnosed, but do not have a weight problem? Also, should I anticipate growth of facial hair, obesity, etc.???
