Re: pcos hereditaryFrom: Monica (anonymous@obgyn.net)Mon, 31 Jul 2000 05:45:54 -0500 (CDT)
They have recently found that PCOS is linked to the gene that carries diabetes. Anyone in your family with diabetes or heart disease? That could be your genetic link. Most likely your family members have never heard of PCOS because it's only been in the last 5 years that even the medical community has gained awareness of it. We have such a long way to go! Bravo for writing to your family! I did that, too, and found a cousin who has PCOS. Also, after reading my letter, my sister contacted her college friend and clued her in on PCO. The friend is now seeking treatment. A simple letter can have a snowball effect! :)Monica
