Tracy, I was right there with ya! My endo had me on Met for 9 miserable months. It worked during the first month, then quit, and the side effects never went away. My doc claimed it was the first time he had seen that happen and thought if I just stayed on it longer it would work. I found A LOT of ladies on the net (here and on the inciid.org site) who had our same experience! Apparently there is a group of us who have a Met-resistant strain. I wish someone would study us.

Well anyway, I quit the Met and went back to bcps and onto spiro for the first time to control symptoms that had gotten a lot WORSE during my time on Met. My testosterone zoomed to 182 and the facial hair started in fresh places, I was having hair loss start, my blood pressure was out of this world, my ovaries were so swollen and painful that it was affecting my daily life, and I was so tired and hungry all the time that any Met-induced weight loss went right out the window.

My endo wouldn't give me Avandia due to the typical 8 lb. weight gain unless I stayed on Met for the whole year, so I said forget it. I've heard that Avandia still doesn't even do it for a lot of us who couldn't use Met, so I am pinning my hopes on Dr. Nestler's d-chiro-inositol that is supposed to be approved by the FDA in two years. I tried to get in a clinical trial on this stuff but you had to be drug-free for so many months and the start date kept getting delayed and I just felt way too crummy to wait any longer. I'm 38 now so this pretty much seals the deal on the childbearing issue since IVF and adoption are not for us, but if I can avoid diabetes and maybe even feel better, well hey, that's something. If there's one thing that PCOS has beaten into me, it's that you can't have everything.
