Yes met is the brand name glucophage is the generic name - same drug. I too felt pretty yuck for about 6 weeks. Then the symptoms went away almost overnight. I did take a two day break from the medication right before this happened. Are you guys who are having trouble taking the met in the middle of your meal. This will help.

As far as diet goes. My endo had me see the diabetes dietician in their office to put me on the right diet. Really low carbs is not the best diet for pcos. The dietician said if you eat less then 100-120 grams of carbs during a day, your liver will start throwing out more glucose which then causes your body to produce more insulin. Just what we don't need. She said the trick is to try and keep your glucose level, so it is not going way up and way down. She said you can acheive this by eating small frequent meals evenly spaced out. Also focus on the high complex carbs fruits, vegetables and whole grains. Brown basamati rice tastes great. Cut out the white stuff and the real starchy stuff. I know that after eating a bavarian cream doughnut I had really bad crampy you know what. So you can't gorge on the carbs either, I am on 6-8 servings a day 3 fruits, as many veggies, and several servings of grains.

If you really can't take the met, I know there are a couple other drugs actos and avandia. They are also supposed to help with the elevated insulin. Just remember you need to be on a medication that will control the insulin, otherwise you can go on to develop diabetes and heart disese. At 43, beside the infertility, I already had hypertension and high cholesterol and I think the start of neuropathy. These things have all improved after being on the meds 8 weeks. So hang in there if you can.
