Checking Insulin Levels

My doctor diagnosed me with PCOS about 2 1/2 years ago. He prescribed clomid and I was able to conceive. However, when I called him about checking my insulin levels, he did not think that it was necessary. He wants me to take birth control instead. I really like my doctor, but am wondering if I should change doctors. I have not been able to lose the weight from having my son and I am tired of finding hair in places that it should not be. Do you have any advice?
