Help with PCOSFrom: anonymous@obgyn.netSun, 25 Jun 2000 23:21:39 -0500 (CDT)
Hello...I am a 33 year-old woman and I have suspected for some time I may have PCOS...it has taken me years to convince my family doctor to send me to a specialist...however, there is no endocrinologist where I live, only an ob-gyn. Can anyone please help me with information before I go to this appointment...what tests should be given?...what medication should I try (I have taken birth control pills and spirolactene (sp?) with little positive result)...is there a special diet I should be on...like many others I hear about, I am apple shaped, overweight, facial and body hair, no or sporadic periods, and addicted to carbohydrates...I had one child as a teenager and have no been able to conceive since...my symptoms (irregular periods, huge weight gain, and growth of hair) began shortly after my daughter was born....anyone with a checklist and some advice for me?...I would really appreciate it..
