Dear Melissa,

You didn't say whether you've been diagnosed with PCOS. If so, have yourself tested for insulin resistance (with a glucose tolerance test, not jsut a fasting insulin) - if it's high, then use request Met - many women go back to normal with just that.

If that doesn't do the trick after a few months (give it some time if your body is really imbalanced to get back to normal and repsond to the med) then Clomid added to the Met has been shown to have very good results in PCOSer's.

Also, be sure that you are not put on a "triphasic" birth control pill - those are formulated differently and may not suppress PCOS well enough. I liked the one I used called Allesse recommended by my reproducitve endocrinologist.

I also highly recommend that if you have good insurance, go find the top specialist you can see - you're much more likely to be taken seriously. I finally found a doctor that joked about me being "positively pediatric", but he was wonderful and now I'm pregnant at 25.

Email me if you want more info - mscheel@houston.rr.com

Sincerely, Maggie
