pcos, metforming and low carbFrom: christine (anonymous@obgyn.net)Fri, 16 Jun 2000 14:04:17 -0500 (CDT)
I went on metformin in april 1999 and had no results until iu switched to a new doctor in september 1999 and increased to 2100mg per day. At about the same time I started a low carb diet, atkins. i also started running 2 miles per day for 5 days a week. I started to get a period (about 45 days apart) in december, then january. i lost about 45 pounds and am at my goal weight of 145. I then did not get a period in february. turns out that I got pregnant. i was floored. i did not intend to do so. i have 5 1/2 year old twins w/perganol. anyway, i miscarried about 8 weeks. i had to stop my metformin during that time. plus I had stopped low carb diet and am just continuing to exercise and have been able to maintain my weight without gaining. my ? is now that I have been back to my metformin since april 4 (that's when I miscarried) I have not had another period? I am confused and trying to figure out if the reason I started getting periods was not really the metformin but was the low carb diet? i have heard people who that worked for? any ideas?
