Metaformin and alcohol?

Hi, I've been on Metaformin two weeks. I started with 500mg, and within one week went to 1500mg. Now I've been on 1500mg for a full week, and have had only occasional discomfort, nothing debilitating or anything, and one very slight episode of diarrhea. So far, so good. I have been popping tums (I like the tropical fruit flavor) when I feel a little upset stomach, similar to when I was pregnant.

I've been doing my Suzanne Sommers diet during this same time frame which is a fairly low carb diet, I eat only whole grains, usually in the AM (cereal with skim milk or a whole wheat bagel, etc.), then protein and veggies for the other two meals and fruit separate from any other meal. I'm not sure the food "combining" aspect of the diet is that important, but if you follow it, it's easy to stay fairly low carb. I have lost 7 pounds in the two weeks, so I'm thrilled. Staying away from white sugar, white flour, potatoes, white rice, seems to be the key.

Question: those of you on Met, have you had any alcohol while on the medication? I'm not a big drinker by any means, especially since I'm trying to lose weight, but I enjoy a glass of wine now and then. I've got a really nice cabernet and I'd love to have some with dinner. From what I've read (somewhere, not sure where) drinking on Met is a big no-no, although one drink with a meal would probably be okay. Any experience out there?
