polycystic ovary syndrome and menopauseFrom: Cindy (anonymous@obgyn.net)Wed, 17 May 2000 08:39:59 -0500 (CDT)
I am 50 and beginning menopause. Although fertility is no longer an issue for me other aspects of PCOS are. I have gained weight and my hair is beginning to thin. My mother has the same problem and was put on glucophage several years ago at ate 68. I talked with the PA at my ob/gyn (where my PCOS was diagnosed 20 years ago) and she was not familiar with the high insulin problem and said I could have a fasting glucose. I tried to explain to her that that was not what I was talking about and she seemed irritated that I was trying to explain something medical to her and suggested I talk with my family doctor. What tests need done to see if the high insulin is a problem, what medication is given, and who can handle the tests/medication. Where can I get professional info for the PA as well as my family doctor if that is where I should go for tests/meds?
