Anti-depressant meds and PCOSFrom: Sari (anonymous@obgyn.net)Wed, 17 May 2000 01:06:01 -0500 (CDT)
Before being diagnosed with PCOS, a physician put me on a low dose of Zoloft (anti-depressant) to help with my mood swings, snap attacks, etc. Shortly after starting Zoloft, I started having a period every other week and horrible, scarring acne. It wasn't until 3 or 4 months into the Zoloft, that I started wondering if the frequent menstruation and acne was somehow related to the Zoloft. When I inquired with the physician, he said he had never heard of this before. Recently I have been diagnosed with PCOS and have started treatment with Metformin & spironolactone. Today when I saw the Psychiatrist, he recommended that I take Wellbutrin (anti-depressant) for my mood swings; although, after such a bad experience with Zoloft, I'm rather frightened to take any anti-dep. Has anybody else had any experiences with PCOS and anti-depressants? I would like to have some advice before filling and talking the prescription. Thx. Sari
