Re: just started metforminFrom: Suzanne (anonymous@obgyn.net)Fri, 21 Apr 2000 12:01:18 -0500
I have been taking Metformin for 20 months. Occasionally I have a bit of diarrhea, but have found that the side effects do go away after a while. I was diagnosed with PCOS 15 years ago and found out that I have Type II diabetes two years ago this June. I also take Aldatone (spirnolactone) for hair growth and water weight gain (which usually shows up in my ankles and legs). You may want to cut down on the caffine - I found that this helps. Have a good easter. -----Original Message----- From: anonymous@obgyn.net [mailto:anonymous@obgyn.net Behalf Of Avalos, Clara Sent: Thursday, April 20, 2000 12:57 PM To: Multiple recipients of list PCOS-MEDICATION Subject: Re: just started metformin Metformin can cause a wide range of side effects, the most common of those are gastrointestinal-related (like upset stomach, flatulence, diarrhea), and supposedly they go away once the patient has been taking Met for a while. However, a small percentage of people have severe reactions to Met and can not take it. You should probably check with your doctor, just to be safe! -----Original Message----- From: anonymous@obgyn.net [mailto:anonymous@obgyn.net Sent: Thursday, April 20, 2000 1:21 PM To: Multiple recipients of list PCOS-MEDICATION Subject: just started metformin I just started 500mg metformin 3 days ago and am having a terrible time! I'm sick to my stomach, tired as heck and my throat hurts. I'm beginning to wonder if I'm coming down with something or if it's the metformin? I'm supposed to increase the dosage every 5 days until I reach 1500/day. I'm very discouraged and am having a hard time taking care of my children (4 under the age of 8!) and husband and household. Has anyone else had these side effects? Should I put off increasing the dose? Help!
