Jennifer,
I too started Metformin in September 1999 and have been on 2500 mg per
day since October. Besides the tendency to binge less, the results with
met have been less than spectacular for me. I only have 30 lbs to lose
(nothing considering how much worse this syndrome can be for most of us)
but I've not been able to lose ANYTHING (pounds or inches)since then
despite a much lower carb diet than pre-glucophage and pretty consistent
exercise. My doctor just put me on a low dose of phentermine (the okay
part of Phen-fen) to jump start my metabolism on March 1, but I just put
a message into her today to tell her that it's had no effect on me
whatsoever. You said that you've reduced your carbs to 50 mg a day and
that you try to eat them in one sitting. I'm curious about the nature
of your carbs - have you cut out breads, sugars, etc in favor of fruits
and vegetables? Also, how are you getting your protein? The hardest
thing about low carbing is the boredom involved with eating so much meat
and other proteins - yuk! Any suggestions you can send along would be
greatly appreciately. Even though it's not my (our) fault, I can't get
off my back about this weight thing and am desperately trying to figure
out an eating plan that will keep me healthy, slimmer and satisfied!
Thanks for your thoughts.
