Re: How long do you give Met a chance? From: anonymous@obgyn.netFri, 7 Apr 2000 00:04:50 EDT
Kathy, I've been taking Met since 12/98 and got "periods" in March and April '99. Then nothing...This was on a prescription for 5oomg/day working up to my current dose of 500mg 3X/day for a total of 1500 mg each day. I didn't notice my blood tests for fasting insulin levels going down and was very discouraged. My doctor wanted me to have another insulin level test last month to see if the Met was doing anything. If not he would suggest stopping the Met. I was pleasantly surprised to find the blood insulin level had dropped and I stated another period Mar. 31. Whether these are ovulatory cycles or not I don't know yet but at least I feel good to be having a period after a year. So, I guess in my case it's taken Met 3 months and then a year. I'm pretty confident the periods came from the effects of Met because I have a history of going years without a "naturally " occurring period. Anyway, good luck! April
